Lexical learning needs to be supported - especially in mixed ability groups. In this course you will get to know concepts of lexical learning such as communicating word meaning, negotiation of meaning and guessing from context to name but a few. We shall also discuss to what extent concepts of lexical semantics can be used to raise learners’ awareness about lexis in class. Lesson videos are used to demonstrate how teachers deal with lexis in the classroom. Lesson videos also offer an opportunity to illustrate theoretical concepts. They can inspire thinking about alternative moves in particular situations of a lesson. In sum, this course aims to combine a research and practical stance toward the topic.
