This is a joint seminar of the history and the English departments, which students of both subjects may attend. We will discuss the conditions that made the systematic destruction of Eastern European Jewry possible. We will also look at how American Jews, next to Israelis the most important segment of contemporary Jewry, have represented the destruction of European Jewry in literature.
Discussions will be held, as much as possible, in English. Students who opt for a Schein in history may write their papers also in German.
