While sustainability is gaining increased importance in the business environment overall, the particular field of sustainable entrepreneurship is still in its infancy. Sustainable entrepreneurship implies jointly integrating ecological, economical and social matters into one’s business model and entrepreneurial endeavor. The main aim of this seminar is to generate a holistic understanding of sustainable entrepreneurship. A particular focus is set on the process of setting up a sustainable enterprise with the help of tailored stakeholder support from the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Thereby, potential key success factors as well as drivers of and barriers for engagement in sustainable entrepreneurship are identified.

Assignments of this seminar include a project proposal, a presentation and a final paper. All assignments build up on one another and are carried out in teams of two students. Topics will be allocated during the first session where a list of possible topics is provided. Afterwards the participants will develop a project proposal on their selected topics and hold a team presentation. The final paper shall be handed in at the end of the lecturing period. Grading will be based on the project proposal, the presentation and the final paper.

Concerning the structure, the seminar will in total consist of four 3.5-hour sessions. The first session is an introductory session where organizational matters are discussed and an introduction to sustainable entrepreneurship is provided. The second session is a hands-on session with a practical workshop on sustainable entrepreneurship. Ultimately the last two sessions are reserved for the team presentations. Next to these four sessions, students will receive the possibility to schedule two individual team meetings with the course instructor to obtain feedback and to discuss remaining questions concerning the course assignments. All registered students will receive as preparation upfront a course manual with further information about the structure and content of this seminar.
